Mt Moss deal fuels gold push for Sunshine

Mt Moss Operation

Sunshine Metals has completed the acquisition of the Mt Moss operation in north Queensland, marking a significant step in the company’s strategy to become a gold producer by 2027.

The ASX-listed explorer acquired the operation on April 30, 2026 for $18 million, comprising an upfront payment of $8 million and a deferred payment of $10 million. The purchase provides Sunshine with an existing processing site and infrastructure that management says will accelerate development of its nearby gold assets.

Engineering and design work for the Mt Moss restart is advancing, with detailed plant design scheduled for completion in August. Refurbishment, construction and permitting activities remain on track to support first gold processing from the Liontown Project in the June 2027 quarter.

“The acquisition provides Sunshine with a permitted processing site and existing infrastructure that will underpin the company’s planned transition to gold production from the Liontown project in 2027,” Sunshine Metals managing director Damien Keys said.

“Our team is working closely with local engineering, metallurgical and environmental firms to ensure we are construction ready as soon as possible.”

The Mt Moss operation includes mining leases covering 7 square kilometres, exploration permits spanning 753 square kilometres, a processing plant with two ball mills capable of treating approximately 300,000 tonnes per annum, a tailings storage facility and extensive site infrastructure.

Sunshine has also recommissioned the site’s accommodation camp, with 28 rooms now operational for refurbishment crews and exploration teams. Meanwhile, preparations are nearing completion for drilling at the Sybil gold project, with drilling at Francis Creek, Francis Creek East and Blue Range expected to begin in early July.

The company remains well funded following a $19 million share placement and a $7.6 million share purchase plan, while advanced financing discussions continue to support construction of a new gold processing circuit at Mt Moss.
