Copper surprise lifts Namibia prospect

Midas Minerals has reported encouraging early signs from its maiden drilling campaign at the Deblin copper-gold-silver deposit in Namibia, with the first hole intersecting two broad zones of visible copper sulphide mineralisation at the Otavi copper project.

The company’s inaugural diamond drill hole, DBDD001, encountered a 37m mineralised interval from 367m to 404m and a further 20m interval from 427m to 447m. The zones contain visible chalcopyrite and bornite mineralisation, with laboratory assays expected during the September quarter.

Importantly, DBDD001 was drilled between two historical holes completed by former project owner Nexa Resources, including an intercept of 15m at 4.15 per cent copper, 14.6 grams per tonne (g/t) silver and 0.22g/t gold. The hole also sits approximately 110m from another high-grade copper intersection, highlighting continuity within the deposit.

“Midas has commenced resource drilling on the Deblin deposit and currently has two core rigs operating there, with a third RC rig testing other drilling targets in the Deblin area,” Midas Minerals managing director Mark Calderwood said.

“Our first hole drilled has unexpectedly intercepted two wide zones of strong copper mineralisation, making it visually superior to the two previous holes drilled by Nexa, further highlighting the prospectivity and resource potential at Deblin.”

Follow-up holes DBDD002 and DBDD003 also intersected visible chalcopyrite, bornite and chalcocite over intervals ranging from 30m to 50m within the Ombombo Formation carbonates. The company is processing and sampling core from all three holes before sending material for laboratory analysis.

The Deblin target corridor extends for at least 1.1km and remains largely untested. Midas now has six rigs operating across the broader Otavi project, including three focused on Deblin, as it works towards defining a maiden resource.

“We are working to get samples from all three initial holes to the laboratory for testing as soon as possible and expect results in the coming September quarter,” Calderwood said.

Midas plans to continue systematic drilling along the corridor in the months ahead, with an updated mineral resource estimate for T-13 expected by the end of 2026 and an inaugural resource estimate for Deblin anticipated in early 2027.
