Iris Metals is entering the new year with strong momentum after a pivotal 2025 that reshaped the company from a lithium-focused explorer into a near-term, multi-commodity critical minerals developer aligned with US supply-chain priorities.
Iris hit a series of milestones across its South Dakota portfolio in 2025, positioning itself as an early mover in North America’s domestic critical minerals market.
At Tin Mountain, the company confirmed high-grade lithium and uncovered a suite of strategic minerals – including beryllium, caesium, rubidium and tantalum – with rubidium intercepts among the highest reported in the US.
“This solidifies our position as a near-term producer, as we continue drilling out resources to advance our hub-and-spoke model,” Iris Metals chair Peter Marks told Australian Resources & Investment.
“But it’s not just about lithium anymore; it’s about building a resilient, multi-commodity critical mineral supply chain in South Dakota to meet surging demand for US-sourced materials.”
Elsewhere in the Black Hills, Iris expanded its landholding through the Ingersoll acquisition, completed bulk-sample direct-shipping ore (DSO) test mining at Beecher, and delivered an initial mineral resource estimate at Beecher’s Longview project.
With permits secured on private land, maiden JORC estimates for Tin Mountain and Ingersoll are targeted for late Q1 2026, following the Beecher mineral resource estimate (MRE) delivered in March 2025.
Iris stands out among many ASX peers facing low lithium prices, tight equity markets and geopolitical risk.
“Creating an end-to-end supply chain in the US and therefore being tariff-free certainly is an advantage,” Marks said.
“The absence of North American production for rubidium, caesium, beryllium and tantalum, combined with US import reliance and Department of Defence domestic-sourcing targets, has drawn strong interest from US and European funds.”
Non-dilutive US Government funding further strengthens Iris’ path to production.
“In short, 2025’s geopolitical tailwinds turned Iris from an interesting ASX lithium story into a priority US critical minerals solution,” Marks said.
