Bastion Minerals has bolstered its technical capabilities with the appointment of Sherifa Munkailah as geologist – project due diligence and evaluation, marking another key step in the company’s renewed corporate strategy.
The appointment follows the recent addition of Ray Muskett to the Bastion board. Muskett is overseeing the company’s technical review of existing assets and potential acquisitions within the Australian gold sector. Munkailah will work closely with Muskett in advancing these reviews and supporting Bastion’s ongoing evaluation of its portfolio and future opportunities.
Munkailah brings a wealth of experience across gold, bauxite and lithium projects. She holds a Bachelor of Science from the University of Ghana and a Master of Geoscience from the University of Western Australia. Her expertise spans geological mapping, drilling supervision, quality assurance and quality control (QAQC), and database management, skills the company said will be critical as it advances exploration programs across its assets.
Prior to joining Bastion, Munkailah served as database and GIS associate at West African Resources, where she managed and maintained geospatial and geological databases supporting the company’s exploration activities.
Bastion Minerals non-executive chairman Gavin Rutherford said the company is delighted to welcome Ms Munkailah to its refreshed team.
“Having previously worked with Sherifa, I am thrilled to welcome her to the new, refreshed Bastion team,” Rutherford said. “Her work alongside director Ray Muskett has two focus areas: evaluating existing projects and assisting in the identification and validation of new assets to add to our portfolio.”
Rutherford said the appointment is an important part of Bastion’s strategy announced earlier this year, which focuses on assessing and potentially partnering or divesting existing assets while pursuing new acquisition opportunities within the Australian gold space.
“Building out our technical team is integral as we progress the company’s renewed strategy,” he said. “Sherifa’s skillset is complementary to our growth, and her extensive experience as a geologist and geoscientist will prove invaluable to Bastion’s future within the Australian gold sector.”
