Drilling to unlock Yalgoo’s gold potential

Premier1 Lithium is set to begin its 3000m reverse circulation (RC) drilling campaign targeting gold mineralisation at its Yalgoo project.

Premier1 Lithium is set to begin a 3000m reverse circulation (RC) drilling campaign, targeting gold mineralisation at its Yalgoo project.

The program will look for high-grade gold targets in the Wadgingarra area, specifically at the Crescent East, Olive Queen, and Carlisle prospects.

This will be the first substantial drill testing for gold in the area since the 1980s, with previous exploration largely concentrated on shallow drilling around historical workings dating back to the early 1900s.

Topdrill mobilised to Yalgoo last week in preparation for the campaign.

“The entire Premier1 team are excited to start drilling at Yalgoo and look forward to working with Topdrill who provide state-of-the-art solutions for safe, productive, and cost-effective drilling services,” Premier1 managing director Jason Froud said.

“Our maiden drill program at Yalgoo is focusing on high-grade targets across the Wadgingarra area. This program aims to assess extensions of known gold occurrences and explore previously untested zones.

“Our past work has underscored the area’s strong prospectivity, which has seen minimal exploration since the 1980s.”

Recent mapping and sampling conducted by Premier1’s at Yalgoo confirmed the project’s high-grade gold potential.

Assay results from known mineralised trends at Olive Queen, Crescent, and Bourkes United have been complemented by newly discovered mineralised trends, including an untested surface anomaly extending over 500m at Crescent East.

Historical drilling in the area was shallow, to depths of approximately 46m, which was standard practice at the time due to lower gold prices and a focus on oxide targets.

This presents a significant opportunity for deeper exploration, with notable historical drill results within Premier1’s Yalgoo tenure including:

  •      5m at 5.1 grams per tonne (g/t) gold from 1m downhole at Crescent
  •      13m at 1.3g/t gold from 13m downhole at Olive Queen
  •      4m at 4.0g/t gold from 20m downhole at Olive Queen

The 30-hole drilling campaign will target extensions along strike and at depth beneath known gold workings while also assessing under-explored zones identified through past sampling.
