Lincoln discovers overlooked mineralised zones

Lincoln Minerals has unearthed significant copper and base metals potential at its Minbrie prospect on South Australia’s Eyre Peninsula.

A review of historical drilling data revealed mineralisation within the previously underexplored footwall sequence, known as the Katunga Dolomite.

Historical drillhole BUDD192 intersected 29.5m at 0.8 per cent copper, 7.5 per cent lead, 1.9 per cent zinc, and 9 grams per tonne (g/t) silver from 131.1m.

This drilling, conducted by Centrex in 2011, was part of an iron-focused exploration effort for magnetite, which left the footwall sequence largely untested, presenting a large and compelling copper and base metals target.

Lincoln chief executive officer Jonathon Trewartha noted the missed opportunities from these early efforts.

“Previous exploration was focused solely on magnetite, with most historic drillholes stopping short of or barely extending beyond the Band iron formation (BIF) – missing the high-grade copper-lead-zinc mineralisation hosted in the footwall,” he said.

Centrex’s historic focus on the overlying BIF left the footwall largely untested, presenting a compelling target for Lincoln.

The company now holds access to all historical drill data and is conducting a systematic review of more than 263 drillholes over a 12km strike length.

Lincoln’s exploration strategy is structured in two phases. Phase 1 involves relogging and geochemical sampling of historical drill holes to refine targets, while Phase 2 will consist of follow-up drilling to extend known mineralisation and test newly identified zones.

“Our targeted exploration program aims to unlock its copper and base metal potential by integrating historical data with a modern systematic approach,” Trewartha said.

“With this extensive high-impact base metals target zone largely untested, we are now well positioned to assess and advance its true potential.”
