Western Yilgarn back on track at Ida Holmes Junction

Western Yilgarn (WYX) has 24 drilling targets in its sights at the Ida Holmes Junction project in WA, with the hope of discovering further nickel-copper-platinum group elements (PGE) mineralisation.

Wet weather stalled exploration efforts, but having reset logistics and remobilised its auger geochemistry team, Western Yilgarn will continue Phase 4 of its drill program which is targeting the newly granted lease E36/1066.

The company has lithium-caesium-tantalum pegmatites to drill alongside the nickel-copper-PGE targets.

The Ida Holmes Junction project boasts geological similarities to BHP’s West Musgrave nickel-copper-PGE project in WA, with the two assets part of the Mount Holmes gabbro (which has a strike length of more than 400km) in the Warakurna igneous province.

These zones are interpreted as dyke-to-sill transitions, which are highly favourable sites for the accumulation of nickel-copper sulphides within magmatic mafic/ultramafic complexes.

In late-January, Western Yilgarn entered into a joint venture (JV) agreement with Fleet Street Holdings, enabling WYX the opportunity to earn-in between a 51 per cent and 80 per cent interest in four tenements along the Holmes Dyke and Ida Fault.

Through the transaction, Western Yilgarn boosted its Bulga project tenure from 477km2 to 684km2. This agreement paved the way for Bulga to be renamed Ida Holmes Junction.

Alongside its geological similarities to West Musgrave, Ida Holmes Junction is also located near two of BHP’s Tier 1 nickel mines, the Leinster and Mt Keith operations, along with several prominent gold projects including the Agnew and Bellevue operations.

Delta Lithium’s Mt Ida lithium project and Liontown Resources’ Kathleen Valley lithium project are also just down the road.
