Just a week after the discovery of a significant base metals deposit at the Ajana project in WA, St George Mining in on the hunt at its other targets across the state.
St George’s first ever drill program at Ajana yielded high-grade zinc, lead and silver mineralisation in multiple drill holes. The results are widely spaced over a 2.2km by 2.5km, suggesting extensive mineralisation in the targeted area.
The area is contained within a larger 25km-long magnetic complex. Additional anomalies have been identified here, with follow-up drilling on the books.
“The exciting initial drilling results at Ajana are located in a previously unexplored area, beneath shallow overburden. It is a blind discovery,” St George executive chairman John Prineas said.
The company also kicked off a multi-faceted exploration program at the Woolgangie project in the Eastern Goldfields of WA. This marks St George’s first ever field exploration at the recently acquired site.
St George is hoping to find lithium, rare earths, and copper.
Multiple lithium pegmatite outcrops have been identified across the site. However, there has been no previous exploration for lithium at the project. The exploration area is also located roughly 25km from an established lithium region which hosts other mines, such as Mineral Resources’ Mt Marion lithium mine.
Historical drilling at the project has also identified wide zones of both copper and rare earths, which Prineas said present attractive prospects and warrant follow-up work.
“The project is located in a Tier 1 mineral hotspot and – for the first time – is being worked over using modern exploration methods to fully investigate the potential for economic mineralisation,” he said.
The program will include aircore drilling, an airborne magnetic survey, a ground based electromagnetic survey, and soil surveys.
