New CEO to drive Rio Tinto’s aluminium ambitions

Rio Tinto has appointed Jérôme Pécresse as its new chief executive officer (CEO) of its aluminium business, taking effect from October 23.

Pécresse will succeed Ivan Vella, who will move to a position as IGO’s CEO in December following the sudden passing of Peter Bradford in October 2022.

Pécresse has over 30 years of experience, which include acting in senior leadership positions in global companies in the mining and energy sectors.

“Jérôme brings a wealth of experience across renewable energy, mining, business development and strategy, ideal for shaping our industry leading aluminium business for a low carbon future,” Rio Tinto CEO Jakob Stausholm said.

Red 5 has appointed highly experienced mining executive David Coyne as chief financial officer (CFO).

“We are delighted David has agreed to join Red 5,” Red 5 managing director Mark Williams said.

“He is well regarded across the mining industry as an accomplished CFO and senior executive and brings a high-level of financial and commercial acumen, that will help us maintain a disciplined focus on cost management.

“David is also well versed in corporate governance and compliance matters. David will be an outstanding addition to our senior leadership team.”

Rare earths producer Hastings Technology Metals has appointed Paul Brown as its new CEO, effective from September 21.

Brown has helped deliver several mining projects such as Fortescue’s Solomon Hub, MinRes’ Mt Marion and Wodigna lithium projects and the Wonmunna iron ore project.

Hastings Technology Metals executive chairman Charles Lew said the company is pleased to welcome Brown as its new CEO.

“Paul’s appointment reflects his deep expertise across the entire mining project lifecycle and strong track record in major project construction management, commissioning, and operation,” Lew said.
