The rise of Genesis: Leonora resource balloons to 2Moz

Black Cat

Genesis Minerals has increased the mineral resource of its Leonora gold project in Western Australia to two million ounces (oz), positioning it as ‘a central player’ in the renowned Leonora gold district.

The Puzzle, Admiral and Orient Well deposits increased by 251,000oz, 103,000oz and 55,000oz respectively, amounting to Leonora’s 409,000oz total resource upgrade (up 25 per cent from March 2021).

Mineralisation is open in all directions suggesting Leonora has the potential for even more growth, with Genesis awaiting several batches of assays as the company further realises the project.

After acquiring the Kookynie gold project in WA in June 2020, Genesis has been focused on Puzzle, Admiral and Orient Well, which had experienced seldom exploration for approximately 20 years.

As a result, no drilling has been conducted at Genesis’ Ulysses deposit during this time, and the Ulysses resource remains unchanged at 838,000oz. Extensional drilling at the project is set to recommence in 2022.

Genesis will also continue extensional drilling at Puzzle, Admiral and Orient Well throughout 2022. With an average drilling depth of approximately 180m below surface, the company has a unique opportunity to explore Leonora near-surface.

Genesis said its prospects don’t stop there.

“With control of more than 40km of strike of highly prospective ground immediately south of Leonora, Genesis has a full pipeline of near-mine and regional exploration targets,” the company said in a statement.

“There is significant opportunity for new discoveries, evidenced by the April 2021 discovery of Puzzle North.”

In February, Genesis announced the results of a reverse circulation (RC) drilling campaign at Puzzle North, which defined an extensive zone of gold mineralisation, with consistent shallow, high-grade mineralisation intersected over a strike length of 600m.
